After saving a caterpillar from a hungry bird, a young girl and her grandfather build a butterfly house to watch it grow.

Comments:

This soft spoken story is narrated by the young girl grown old. Bunting precisely documents the raising of a butterfly, while touching the hearts of many readers through the young girls and grandfathers relationship. Love and warmth radiate from this book through Bunting’s delightful story and Shed’s wonderful illustrations. The sun kissed paintings really put this book over the top. It is a wonderful book to share with students as they capture, grow, and release their own butterflies into new found freedom. Included in the back are step by step instructions for making one’s own butterfly house.
