No one knows what to make of the new student at Watertown Elementary. First her name is Goonie Bird Greene and her unique style makes her stick out like a sore thumb. From the start of school she lets the teacher know that t she wants to be right smack in the middle of everything and she does that by telling verystories to her class. To Mrs. Pigeon her stories seemed to be a bit to far fetched, like how she drove from her old home town China to Watertower, but Goonie Bird insists that her stories are all ABSOLUTELY true. As Mrs. Pigeon gives Goonie Bird a chance to share her adventures with the class, she realizes Goonie Bird's true talent for story telling.
This laughable, fun loving book by the excellent author Lois Lowry is a great read aloud for 2nd and 3rd grade children and an excellent resource for teachers to help show students how to write well written personal narratives with a creative, unique voice using interesting vocabulary. This book will leave you and your students/children sitting on the edge of your seat begging for stories from Goonie Bird. Don't miss out on this awesome read!!
