After Micheal's parents lose their jobs in their small town in England, they decide to live their lives the way they always wanted to; on their sailboat. Sailing around the world brings excitement to the family, but one night, there was a little more excitement that anyone had expected. When Michael is washed up on a deserted island in the Pacific after falling from his parents' sailboat he struggles to survive on his own. After a few days Micheal soon realizes there is someone close by, someone who is watching over him and helping him to stay alive.

This amazing true story by Micheal Morpugo will leave you stuck in your book for hours and leave your students screaming for more during read aloud sessions. Morpugo's writing talents really shine in this books and the ending will make you cry and smile at the same time.

Although I read it to my 3rd grade students last year and they absolutely loved it, the vocabulary is fairly advanced and fit more for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students, but I would actually recommend this book to anyone at any age, young or old. The storyline and style of write Morpugo uses will keep you reading for hours. I promise!
